Art History 1 Art Project

posted Nov 22, 2009 5:23 PM by Nancy Ross
Each student is expected to complete an art project and present the finished piece at the final exam.

Please note that I reserve the right to keep your project to use as a model in future art history classes.

Each project will be judged on the degree to which it resembles the original. I don't expect you to be the next Praxiteles, but I do expect the projects to represent sincere effort. A poor effort will receive 10 out of 20 points. A good effort will receive 16 points and projects representing exceptional effort will receive 20 points.

Here are the requirements:
  1. Each piece must be a key work or part of a key work. If you want to do something else, please ask/email me about it.
  2. The art project does not have to be in the same artistic medium that the original is in. For example, if you want to do the Parthenon, you can do a drawing of the building. You don't have to recreate the original in marble.
  3. Your project does not need to recreate the size and scale of the original piece. In most cases, your project will be much smaller than the original. If you're recreating the Venus of Willendorf, your project will probably me larger than the original.
  4. Each project should be a faithful representation of the key work.
  5. Each project should represent at least four hours of work.
